Does Wii Sports Resort CMOC functionality work (and if so, how can I get it working?)

Wii Sports Resort has a feature that, if enabled, allows Miis from the Check Mii Out Channel to appear as opponents or spectators in Speed Slice, Basketball, Table Tennis, and Cycling. I’ve seen a few videos that show that this feature works, but none of the uploaders have ever said how exactly they got this working, exactly. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help with this matter? It’s a very cool feature and it sucks that I haven’t gotten to try it.

You may find it surprising but, yes this works! Basically all you gotta do to get it working again is install the CMOC patcher file on YAWM ModMii and once you’ve set that up insert the Wii Sports Resort disc and wait for the game to load up, then go to the settings and enable ‘Import Miis from Check Mii Out Channel’ it’ll give you some clarification saying “Some Miis may be inappropriate!” but simply hit the Okay button multiple times until you see the option to actually import miis, click Enable and it should bring you back to the settings and it’ll say ‘Enabled.’ If you recieve a WiiConnect24 error, simply go to the Wii Settings and run a connection test and use the connection. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

So I’ve followed the steps, and I just wanted to know, does this take a while to take effect? I’ve done a few games but the new Miis haven’t seemed to appear yet.

I will say that finding unfamiliar miis will be time consuming but if you believe to have found a mii that was never in your mii plaza, thats how you know the setting works.

The last thing I’d like to mention is that the setting enabled just fine without any errors coming up. However, there were times before where I did have the setting enabled but no new Miis came up. I’m not entirely sure if this will still be the case but I will keep you updated by playing the game for a while. Should I suspect that it’s not working for some reason, I’ll say so.

Are you saying new miis to play as?

No, what I mean is Miis appearing as CPUs or spectators. I understand that’s how it works. Granted, right now I’m not playing a mode that supports this function right now (Swordplay Showdown), but I will keep a sharp eye out.

CMOC miis won’t be played as CPUs only spectators.

That’s not entirely true, actually. There are screenshots from when the service was originally active that show that they could indeed appear as opponents.

Well I haven’t learned anything today and this taught me something.

I might add that since the documentation on this feature is spotty at best, there are a lot of things I’m unsure of. Some have claimed that it can take a few hours before the changes are evident, and others say that the DNS requires changing (which I have done in Wii settings and also worked as I did not get any errors). My network provider used to block custom DNS but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore if it worked.

For the feature to work, you need to open the game through a USB loader / with CIOS. After that, you need to stay in game for up to 3 hours for the game to download the needed data from the server.

And yes, you need to use the WiiLink DNS for this (167.235.229.36). Go to Internet settings > User Agreements to see if it works (if it doesn’t work, you’ll see Nintendo’s EULA instead of WiiLink’s). If it doesn’t work, there is a offline DNS application, but it’s outdated. I’ll try to get it updated.

That must be the problem then; I was wrong about my network not blocking custom DNS. I put the new DNS values in the settings but the regular old EULA still came up. If I can take a look at the offline application, I’d appreciate that. Also, I never thought to leave the game running for 3 hours.
