Is it possible to bring the Wii internet channel back

I know the internet channel is old but I have figured out how to browse on it just not effective. I made my own thing that once you go to an ip on the channel it leads to my ip address web page and if you type somthing in on it it will load and you can click on stuff. However this is not a full revive.

My idea is if we can make a website that is a one to one recreation of the internet channel with the browser I made in it and have a .wad file load it it could be patched however I am not good at designing stuff so I would not be able to make the recreation my self fully.

If we can get a small team or maybe some people at wiilink to do this we could revive it. I am still rn working ti get a new computer so I haven’t worked on it for a while since a few months ago my cat jumped and broke my computer so I am using a windows 7 Toshiba from like 2010.

If anyone could help we could get a small team and give everyone roles. Once the internet channel is patched basically the Wii will be an unstoppable machine.

basiclly patch wad and use it to use a specific website that looks like the internet channel?

Ehm, aren’t u already working on wiitube (and photo channel convert thing)

I only made the website to Wii tube so I finished that and I finished the converter so I have nothing to do rn. So yeah it would patch a recreation of it so it would be the exact same with browsing so it would be a patch

Could the Wii even handle any modern website these days?

Yes. But it depends. Since this would be on a wad and not the internet channel it would have more power. This website would use for the browser a screen shot thing that sends the screenshots. The wii is able to handle this as I have tested it before when I made another screenshot browser with a map. So it would be able to load. However I cannot do this by myself. It would require a one to one recreation of the internet channel which would mean getting all image files and stuff. So we would need people working on the recreation that are actually good at website creation which could made it. The people working on the wad. Then people working on the browser in the website. It is a big project but once it is completed it could become part of wiilink and the Wii would become the ultimate device. Plus it would be cool as a ton of content creators would be checking out our creation.

Well, wiitube is a youtube channel revival, but much better, and wiilink is a wc24 service revival and wiimmfi nintendo wfc revival. So the remaining channel, to get revived (yea there are VODs but it wouldn’t be legal) is the internet channel.

On the other hand, @MineNiteYT said, he remembers u maing a wii game record feature. Maybe u can work on it further???

Because I would rather see a wii record feature, than a internet channel revival

I was burnt out over the wiitube project anyway that is why is stepped back. The internet is one of the only things that needs to be revived. It would be cool doing a ton of things like literally typing in this forum . This is just a thought but we could add a download feature to to an sd card or usb.

I am working on this now. I am starting it on a windows 8.1 computer lol as it is the only one I have rn.

I am extracting all of the image files from the original so I can begin making it. If anyone knows about wad development as the wad will need to go to a certain website depending on which language it is. It will also have to receive images super fast from the website to load it.

Right now I have tons of images over 500 so I am almost done with that and I will start audio extracting soon. If anyone wants to help please type below and I will give you something to do.

This will support English, German, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Spanish, and French!

What I know about internet channel:

Funny Home menu: When showing it, it will still load websites. This is probably the reason, why it has a cooldown.

Flash games are sometimes faster and sometimes slower (idk why)

Internet channel can see wii pointer information: https://rc24.xyz/goodies/internetchannel/

Probably u guys know but maybe some dont.

Well kind off but it’s the only way to patch it as the Wii is too old.

It will be just like the original with modern browsers

So if u go to wiilink forum, u will only be able to see icons, user profile images and images posted by users?

Oh no not at all.

Sorry for being confusing but it works by the website is a full recreation of the Wii internet channel with browsing then it sends a screenshot of the website that the Wii was loads then when you click it sends where you clicked to the website which loads the click on the website. It will send about 60 screenshots per second and it will always be loading then deleting the screenshots

I hoped that it does that, nice!

If i hover on a button, it will get highlighted, because it sends 60 screenshots per second.

But arent maybe 60 too much?

Hopefully u will be able to watch WiiTube videos or even play neal.fun games

60 is how much I am going to shoot for. It may not go all the way up to 60 but if I can get it to 60 screenshots per second that would be great

THIS IS MAJOR!!!

I relized that fully recreating the internet channel as a website would be way to diffucult and I guess it is not a genuine way as it is just all screenshots plus it wouldn’t be able to be fully exact as there are definitely some stuff that would be different.

Sooo I instead made a service that you can connect the Wii internet channel to using proxy that would route the Wii internet channel from instead of using the normal servers to browse it would use my own that would have a patch that fixes it.

Low and behold it is now working. I still have a lot of work on it because as of now it still has many issues and kinks to work out but I can technically browse modern websites on my Wii!
