After over a year of downtime, the News Channel is back! (to an extent)
After seeing the support channel requesting this the most out of any service, I put the News Channel at the top of my priority list. As I expedited this, currently only English is available, however it should be available in all countries.
Development is currently undergoing for all other Wii supported languages.
An update is REQUIRED
Please download the latest version from the WiiLink Patcher. This is required as we do not have the old RSA key that was used.

As a side note, please do not harass any developers for missing features as again, it is under active development.
